Panic Button
Motorola radios have a dedicated panic button which, when pressed, sends emergency alert tones and the radio's unique identity, directly to other radio users. This means that a manned office, such as a security control centre, would be able to use their desk-top control radio to immediately identify which individual radio on site had pressed their panic button.
Lone Worker Alarm
Many of Motorola’s professional digital radios can be programmed so that a lone worker in a particularly hazardous environment or an isolated area can select lone worker mode on their radio. When this feature is enabled, the radio user is prompted to press an OK button (or the PTT button) on their radio at pre-determined intervals of inactivity. Failure to respond to a prompt from the radio will automatically set off the alert sequence as described above for the panic button.
Mandown Alarm
Motorola radios can be programmed so that a lone worker can select mandown mode on their radio. When this feature is enabled, should the radio detect that it has moved to horizontal, the radio will alert the radio user with pre-alert tones before automatically setting off the alert sequence as described above for the panic button.
Inactivity Alarm
Lone workers can also activate a mode titled 'inactivity' on their radio. When this feature is enabled, should the radio detect that it has not moved or has not been used for a pre-set period of time, the radio will alert the radio user with pre-alert tones before automatically setting off the alert sequence as described above for the panic button.
Alarm Response
When any of the features above are activated, the radio can be programmed to automatically switch to transmit mode, with the microphone set to high gain, so that even if the user cannot operate his radio manually or remove it from his belt, he will still be able to send voice messages and just as importantly, receive messages that assistance is on the way.
Remote Monitor
With an associated PC based software package, or a desk-top control radio, a digital radio system controller/dispatcher can select an individual radio user that they wish to remotely “monitor” for health and safety purposes.
This means that if a CCTV controller can see one of their staff being mistreated, they can remotely activate that member of staffs radio transmitter and listen to the incident over the air.
