An enquiry came into us recently from a Northamptonshire farming operation that had a need for good, reliable two-way communications over a very wide area. They had considered and understood the financial benefits of using new digital two-way radios over other cost options, such as cellular mobile telephony, but they had a concern that two-way radios would not work over the extremely wide area of Northamptonshire that their farm, fields and paddocks occupied.

Arable Operations Manager Marcus contacted us and we suggested a free of charge loan and installation, of a Hytera repeater base station and a few mobile radios that we would leave with him to carry out his own radio coverage checks.

After just a few days using the radios, with crystal clear two-way voice communications out to all areas of the farms grounds, it became obvious to Marcus that digital two-way radios were the best and most cost effective solution for immediate communications across their farms estate.

The order was placed with us for a Digital two way radio system comprising an RD625 repeater base station, a number of new MD615 vehicle mobile radios for installation in a variety of agricultural vehicles, together with a number of the extremely rugged PD665 handportable radios.

Our Chief Engineer Bill then had an enjoyable day on the farm installing and commissioning vehicle radios in what are commonly referred to as “Big Boys Toys".

A couple days after the installation, Operations Manager Marcus commented:
